About Primary Mathematics
On February 1, 2023, My Father's World began recommending and providing Dimensions Math®, the flagship curriculum of Singapore Math®. While we love Primary Mathematics by Singapore, we are looking ahead. Because we believe so strongly in the methodology, we have carefully evaluated a number of Singapore math programs now available. We are confident that Dimensions Math follows most closely the original design and philosophy of the Singapore methodology. In addition, to make your job easier, it has enhanced content and the availability of helpful instructional videos for every lesson. We are confident in recommending Dimensions Math. LEARN MORE
Singapore’s Primary Mathematics U.S. Edition has an impressive scope and sequence that introduces skills early with unique and well thought-out methods. For example, simple multiplication and division readiness concepts are introduced in Level 1.
Another strength of Singapore Math®: is the strong mental math component. Logical, unique strategies are taught that help students truly understand mathematical concepts. Students are then able to solve problems mentally without always relying on paper and pencil.
Primary Mathematics was written for schools in the country of Singapore, which is an English-speaking nation. Singaporean students are distinguished among their international counterparts for receiving high marks in math. Primary Mathematics is gaining respect and popularity as students worldwide benefit from its unique approach. The Primary Mathematics U.S. Edition includes measurement units relative to American culture (U.S. currency, pounds, ounces, etc.).
We also appreciate the manageable number of workbook problems students are expected to solve on a daily basis. Its effective, parent- and student-friendly format, makes this a program we highly recommend to others.
Many children who switch to Singapore after 2nd grade will need to complete more than one lesson a day until they are on target to complete this goal. The following time recommendations will help your child catch up.
- 3rd and 4th graders (who are behind) should spend at least 45 minutes a day on math.
- 5th graders (who are behind) should spend at least 60 minutes a day on math.
- 6th graders (who are behind) should spend at least 75 minutes a day on math.
Once your child has progressed sufficiently so that he is on track to finish at least Level 5B by the end of 6th grade, he can complete one lesson per day as scheduled in the MFW lesson plans.
Using Singapore Math
Each one-semester set from My Father’s World includes:
- One reusable textbook
- One consumable workbook
- One Daily Lesson Plan with Answers developed by My Father’s World
A One-Semester Set should be sufficient for a standard school semester. (If your child is working at an accelerated pace then you will need more than one set per school semester.)
Workbooks for additional students are also available.
If you are teaching more than one child and using the same level, only one complete package for that level is needed. Singapore Textbooks and MFW Daily Lesson Plans are not consumed; you may use them with multiple students. You only need an extra Workbook for additional children.
