7th-12th Alternate Courses for Science

We are developing new recommendations for students who will benefit from alternate courses for science. Our goal with all of our curriculum is practical excellence — courses that are designed for success. So, we are sharing the following recommendations with you and will expand on this in the future. We welcome your feedback to help us make these suggestions even better.

7th Grade:
Begin the year with Science in the Atomic Age, teaching your student how to read a chapter for information and how to prepare for tests. If you find that this book is just not working, set it aside for a year and let the student use the science included in your Five-Year Cycle curriculum package (Exploring Countries and Cultures, Creation to the Greeks, etc.). Have the student take leadership by gathering supplies and leading the demonstrations and experiments under your watchful eye.

8th Grade:
Science in the Atomic Age — if already completed as a 7th grader, go to our recommended course for 8th grade, Earth Science.

9th Grade:

10th Grade:
Concepts in Biology — use for high school science credit or to prepare for Discovering Design with Biology, our recommended course, the following year.

11th or 12th Grade:
Earth Science or Concepts in Biology (if not already completed).

CHEMISTRY
We don't have a recommendation for Chemistry yet, but we are looking into Friendly Chemistry. We'll try to post information in time for next year.

Designed for those who find it more difficult to learn by reading or lack a solid science background, the reading and vocabulary levels are less rigorous.

Concepts in Biology is a gentle, simpler course for those who would find it difficult to succeed in an academically-strong biology course. The content is high school level, earning a full-year high school credit, but the reading and vocabulary levels are less rigorous. If your student is college-bound (or fascinated with science) and a strong reader, we recommend Discovering Design with Biology.

To help students successfully complete this course, our package includes streaming videos for each lesson, taught by the author.
