Be Quiet, I Need to See

Have you ever been driving in an unknown area and had to look for street signs and found it difficult? Most times the radio is on and we quickly turn it off so we can look for the signs better. Or we tell the kids to be quiet so we can see. We don't really mean that sounds keep us from seeing — we just want to be free of distraction so we can concentrate and it comes out wrong. Well, we have had one of those situations in the print shop the past two weeks.

We have a job that is taking a lot of time, only because we have to sit and watch to make sure it does not go out of order as it is being cut and stacked. It is nerve wracking to say the least. The task was spread out over many days and multiple people worked on it. This one job has had the most people involved that I have ever seen in my time working here. We are still in the process of shrink-wrapping it together to box it up and send off to shipping. We discovered that the way it was set up could be improved and will be changed going forward.

When you are working with the limits of machines, it also limits how things are done. Sometimes, simpler is better and that is what the production supervisor is changing about the job. We can't afford to have one or two machines occupied, taking multiple days to finish a job. It takes away from other projects and slows production down. Slowed production is not something you want as you go into the busiest time of the year for a company.

What can you take away from this story? "Be quiet, I need to see!" God tell us to "Be still, and know that I am God…" Psalms 46:10. Are you being still so you can seek him? When we let our minds be quiet, we see and hear things a lot better. We can concentrate better to get the job done. So many things stop us from being still, oftentimes, our frustration and lack of patience at the situation. Sometimes, it is people who don't do things the way we think they should be done. How many times in our lives are we going to have the "be quiet, I need to see" moments? With the use of navigation apps, it is much easier to travel in unknown areas. In the job, the more I learn and work on projects, the easier they become. As I get older, the frustrating moments are being overtaken by calm moments with God. I pray that every day you turn a frustrating time into a quiet, calm time. Seek His will in your life daily. God Bless each and every one of you.
