High School Bible Overview
As a family moves toward high school and considers whether they should stay with My Father’s World, there are many things to consider. I believe the high school curriculum as a whole is very strong, challenging, and college preparatory in many ways. Today, I want to concentrate on the Bible portion of our program.
In the first year, a student will read the entire Old Testament with challenging questions from Taking the Old Testament Challenge and the Daniel Teen Inductive Bible Study. We also include some apologetics with The New Answers Book. We can look at the Old Testament not only as the religious text that it is, but also as history and literature. This is a tie-in that many miss.
In the second year, the student will read through the entire New Testament and work to apply its teaching and truth in their daily walk. They will also go through Experiencing God, which will help them see what God is doing around them. This will help them notice that God is always at work, and with His guidance, we can join in and change a life for the Kingdom.
Now that we have read through the entire Bible in the first two years of high school, in the third year, students will learn how the Bible applies to all areas of their lives. In the study Thinking Like a Christian, they will study a biblical worldview in ten areas including theology, biology, ethics, and law. In the book Growing Up Christian, the student will learn how to think and live biblically and recognize the blessings and danger of the assumptions in growing up Christian.
In the fourth and final year, your student will take everything they learned in the previous three years and learn skills for spiritual growth designed to develop lifelong habits in Bible study and reading. They will focus on memorization, daily Bible reading, and different types of prayer, such as praying for the nations and intercessory prayer.
We want a student to not only be prepared for the world academically and for life beyond high school, but also spiritually. There will be smart people who will challenge their core beliefs, and we want your student to remain strong in their faith and be able to give the reason for their faith.
