Busy Season

Our busy season is preparing to kick off, which means a lot of preparation. As we get more inventory flowing in it requires quick responses and turn-around times to get it received and moved. It is all about getting the shelves stacked to full capacity so we can get those orders out quickly. At peak time it is all hands on deck. Many of us have adjustments to our normal job duties to help assist with the picking and shipping of the orders.

As you can imagine, during this time, we quickly send out a lot of inventory that we just spent time stocking. This is a large part of where I come into the equation. As the shelves get low, I run daily reports to see where the deficits are so I can quickly gather up all those items from our main warehouse. Then I take all that inventory and place it on pallets. Once the pallets have been stacked and shrink wrapped, it is time to transfer them. I go pick up the big yellow truck and load all with the pallets to transfer to our main picking and shipping hub. After I arrive, I off load the truck and label the pallets to indicate what stage of the process they are in. Then comes the computer work of this whole process. After making a detailed list of the inventory all the way down to the very last book, I move every item systematically because it is hard to know what inventory you have if it is not in its proper storage place. If we were to have 100 copies of a book at the main hub, 50 copies of that book in the pick bin, and 1000 copies of that book at the inventory warehouse then we need to make sure that the system reflects those exact numbers in those exact locations. A close eye for detail is crucial as it is very easy to overlook a number or mistype one, but we have several quality check points to catch mistakes so we can ensure we are prepared to get your order out to you.

We move on now to stocking or getting those items on the shelf. During this time, you will see box after box of different books almost seem to disappear in front of you. It is almost astonishing how fast they fly off the shelf. The quicker we can get everything stocked and ready, the faster and more efficiently we can get those orders out.

I work very closely with the warehouse team and I can say with all certainty that they pride themselves in getting your order out quickly and correctly. As a company, we all understand the importance and the impact our carefully crafted curriculum will have on future generations, and because of that, we strive to ensure that we are doing all we can to get it to your doorstep quickly and ready to use. God has given us our beautiful children through whatever means that may be — birth, adoption, foster care, or even those who would be placed in your life to invest in. It is our job, duty and privilege to train them up in the fear and admiration of the Lord while also preparing them to make choices based of the word of God rather than off the opinions and processes of the world.
