Inventory Control Specialist

Hi! My name is Chris and I am the Inventory Control Specialist at My Father’s World. I wanted to share a small peek at what happens behind the scenes here in the warehouse. As we are approaching our busiest season of the year, we are ordering and receiving inventory to be able to fulfill your orders, which can be a pretty large task. In just the last 2 weeks we have received over 30 pallets and well over 100 individual cases of inventory. When these items come in, I go through everything to verify the correct amount was sent. Following that, I make labels and select a designated place inside the warehouse to store what is unable to fit inside our main location where all the orders are filled and shipped out from. In the midst of counting and receiving all of the inventory, there are transfers that must take place to get the needed inventory from our secondary storage facility to our main location.

My job may not seem very exciting to some people, but it is a vital part of keeping everything flowing and I enjoy finding new ways to make things simple and more efficient. I recently rearranged the layout here at the overflow warehouse, condensing items together that are not needed very often into the back or the furthest point while moving high demand items closer to the front of the warehouse. This in itself has helped limit the amount of time it takes to get the material together and ready for transfer.

As part of my job, I also get to meet a variety of different people, many of whom also work behind the scenes jobs in shipping and transport companies. During deliveries we have a normal rotation of people who work for our main carrier companies, allowing me to build relationships and providing an opportunity to share the Lord with them. I try to carefully present the gospel in a relatable way with each person as I get to know them. There are some that know the Lord and as a result we get to have a few minutes of fellowship and encouragement during their deliveries.

My days may not be filled with adventure, but when you commit to making your days exciting and filled with joy, you will be surprised what you find yourself getting into. Depending the day, if someone were to visit the warehouse, you might find some of the staff laughing, singing or even dancing around. You might even get to see a circus act as I am juggling boxes and putting away inventory. Our days can always be filled with joy and excitement, but it is not so much what we are doing as the mindset we choose. I have a scripture that I use in my signature for all the emails I send out and it is Colossians 3:17 – “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” It is a consistent reminder to me that everything should be done in the name of Jesus by giving thanks to God, remembering to have joy, express gratitude, and persevere through difficult times by renewing my strength in Him.
