Family
I have always wanted a family, and the idea of having one is closer than ever. With me getting married in just a couple of weeks, it’s as exciting as it is humbling as I enter this new time in my life. I need to try and put myself in the mindset of a husband—what my wife would need and want from me, and what I want from myself.
The idea I’ve always had and wanted to be as a father is a steadfast Christian who can be someone to look up to—not just for my kids and wife, but for anyone. My fondest memories of my dad are of seeing him with a cup of coffee and a Bible in his hand when I woke up. He never missed a day where he wouldn’t read and spend time with God first thing in the morning, and I want to be that kind of father—someone people consistently see with God and in prayer.
We should all be the kind of men and women that people look at and say, “That is a child of God and a good and faithful servant.” But I won’t get there unless I get that habit started young. You’ll never just magically say, “Oh, I’m ready to be that man,” or “I’m ready to read my Bible every morning.” It’s something you need to do and build while you grow in the Lord. You won’t just wake up one day ready to be a steady and loving servant for the Lord unless you build good, healthy habits to early. Even if you don’t have them now, it’s never too late to learn them and practice them daily.
One of the most beneficial things I’ve done recently is start a Bible study with some friends, and to say that it’s been valuable to myself and my friends would be a huge understatement. We grow the most and see the most fruit when we walk together and learn together. You can learn so much from others, and you need to be in the Holy Word with community and have people correct you when you’re wrong and learn from one another.
Through working with people I love, I have gained a backing and reminder from people who love me and wish to see me thrive. I can’t recommend enough starting your own little Bible study—just having some tea, coffee, cookies, or whatever else floats your boat, and having fun talking about the Lord.
When I do start a family, I wish to start a Bible study with that family and have it as consistently as I can, because I’ve seen the works and fruits of it as a young man. The more I do for the Lord, the more I see and the more I learn about what I want to implement as a dad, husband, and friend even further down the future and for the rest of my life.
God bless.
