My Experience Grew Working at My Father’s World

Now for "The Rest of the Story" as the great orator, Paul Harvey would say.

If you have read my previous blog, you are familiar with my first experiences working at My Father's World. That post contained bits of my public school education and my initial introduction to homeschooling through my nephews.

My experience working at My Father's World has shown me so much more about the experience of homeschooling and the potential results it can have. I see how the process of homeschooling creates an excitement for learning among the children, and I see parents, family members, and even whole communities positively affected as well. Depending on the curriculum used, a very important aspect of education can be addressed: that of beliefs and worldview issues. During the daily process of learning, the core values, beliefs and worldview of the family can be presented and upheld.

Working for a homeschool curriculum company has really opened my understanding of both the homeschool teacher and student. I realize now that it takes a lot of dedication and effort for both the teachers and their students, and I have learned that the process can be not only productive but sometimes it is also entertaining. And in that process, homeschooling seems to produce close-knit families. Part of that is because using a Bible based curriculum allows the whole family to acquire wisdom and knowledge from learning how to be in step with the One who created you, loves you, and bestowed carefully selected talents upon you. Looking at those things, I think that I would have enjoyed homeschooling as a child had it been an option for my family back then.

With that said, I would like to share my wife's experience with homeschooling. Many years ago now, I met a beautiful, loving and kind lady who was unfortunately widowed and in the process of raising three daughters as a single mom. Homeschooling was an important part of their family life. When our paths crossed, the eldest daughter had graduated from high school as a homeschool student and, after being accepted to several schools, was attending the university of her choice. The middle daughter was just getting ready to graduate high school and the youngest was 12. Initially, all three girls had attended public school, but eventually a decision was made to try homeschooling. They were a military family, and they felt that homeschooling offered a stable environment since they were often on the move. Furthermore, homeschooling offered the chance to have a flexible schedule that included both structure and creative outlets. As they faced the tragic change in their family dynamic, it also allowed for mom's new work schedule, which became important during a difficult time for all of them. And finally, the family thrived in spite of the challenges, in part, due to their ability to strengthen their spiritual foundation and Christ-centered worldview on a daily basis.

My wife and I now have 10 awesome grandchildren. We made the decision to purchase all of our grandchildren's education materials through My Father's World. It allows us to not only offer them wonderful academic and spiritual components, but also to provide our children and their children the ability to be homeschooling families with all the positive aspects that brings. They just love the opportunity and My Father's World products and so do we. Now our daughters will be able to fulfill God's word as expressed in the following verse:

Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.  Proverbs 22:6
