Continuing Family Traditions and Homeschooling Opportunities

As I mentioned in my previous post, the opportunity for my wife and I to be able to offer our grandchildren the same privilege to homeschool their parents had was important to us. It was our dream to pass on this tradition. Each of our three daughters had the opportunity be homeschooled for at least part of their education and now My Father's World has provided the opportunity for us to share that blessing with our 10 amazing grandchildren.

Last time, I wrote about our middle daughter and her family's changing lifestyles and demands. In this post, I want to share more about some of the challenges our eldest daughter's family has had to work through. For starters, they live in Connecticut and deal with different state homeschool requirements and policies than what we have in Missouri. They have been on an intensive crusade rallying others to stand up against excessive regulations the government is attempting to impose on homeschool education. These regulations could prove to take away freedoms and rights from parents and even control the family and invade the privacy of their own homes. We are proud of our daughter's family for standing strong and firm. Her eldest daughter, who is soon to be a homeschool graduate and is working part time as a lawyer's assistant, has spoken at some of the events.

Our elder daughter has five children in all and their ages are spread out over a 15-year span. My Father's World curriculum has a great feature called the Family Learning Cycle that can facilitate several ages with just one teaching session. Each student can have associated activities that are age appropriate while discussing, exploring, and enjoying the current topic side by side with siblings at other levels. This year, one of the older siblings who is currently in high school requested to join her younger brother in studying a specific topic. The flexibility to incorporate family learning benefited both of the students, not to mention really helping Mom as well. In addition, our daughter has a beautiful special needs child who has enjoyed using some of the Preschool hands-on learning toys and tools over the many years. We have found this curriculum to be a valuable source of education that easily blends into daily life, even in situations such as this one in which education will continue throughout a whole lifetime of our grandchild with special needs.

With the oldest soon to graduate, the youngest child in the family is now ready to begin her adventures in schooling and so the process begins again. This large family in Connecticut has everything they need to bring one more through the process. Adventures in homeschooling continue. May the Lord continue to bless their family as He has truly done in the past. We look forward to seeing what the littlest one will do and accomplish!
