Midwest Changes
Hello, My Father's World families! I'm Christy C. and it's quite possible that we've communicated about one thing or another homeschool related by phone or email.
In 2008, My husband and I attended an onsite event called Vision Weekend. We traveled to Rolla to spend the weekend with the MFW team, gaining a deeper understanding of the mission of My Father's World. We were also provided with time to spend together developing our family mission statement and setting up a plan for our future. It was life-changing and I highly encourage you to check the website for more information on this event that is still held twice each year.
After that visit, I was given the opportunity to work at the FPEA Homeschool Convention in Orlando Florida with the My Father's World traveling team. Sharing with parents about the curriculum I loved for my own children was quite the experience! I also traveled to other conventions when a local mom wasn't available to serve with the traveling team. That was fun because I got to travel, got to know the MFW traveling teams better, and met like-minded moms all over the country.
In 2012, a customer service position opened at My Father's World. I applied and was invited to work through the summer on a trial basis. Our family packed up the Yukon with only essentials and traveled from Jacksonville, Florida (largest city by area in the contiguous U.S. and population over 800,000) to Rolla, Missouri (population under 20,000). At that time, we had 4 children, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a hamster traveling over 1,000 miles to a new adventure.
That summer flew by and I enjoyed helping families with just about anything related to homeschooling. Since I had been a stay-at-home mom for over a decade and my baby had just turned 5, we needed that trial to be sure it was best for our family and best for My Father's World. It's now been 13 years, and I'm confident God placed me here for such a time.
It was an adjustment to our lives to say the least! We were used to having every imaginable convenience available at our fingertips: Chick-fil-a (I admit I was addicted), Target, Walmart, Starbucks, dozens of churches, shopping malls, Sam's Club, Costco, Trader Joe, Lowes, and Home Depot. You name it and it was somewhere in the city.
Other things changed for our family when we accepted the position and moved to Rolla. Mom became the full-time working parent and dad became the full-time homeschooling parent. We took classes and became foster parents. This added several blessings to our home on a temporary basis, but one stole our heart and has never left. She became ours by age 2 and we couldn't imagine life without her. We now have four adult children that we are quite proud of and one entering the teen years way too soon.
I will share more about the various things I have been blessed to be a part of at My Father's World in my next writing, but I thought getting to know me would be a good start.
