Life-Long Learner

Today's school success is usually about grades, test scores, and doing well on paper. Those things matter, but they are not everything. For Christian families, school is about more than raising kids who are just good students. It is about raising kids who love learning, who want to know the truth, and who understand that everything they learn comes from God. How you teach them and what you show them matters too.

I grew up being homeschooled my whole life in Texas, and honestly, I am so thankful for it. Learning was not something I dreaded or tried to get through each day. It was just part of life. I wanted to learn, and I still do. I really believe that if I had been stuck sitting at a desk in public school all day, I would not have the same excitement or motivation to learn that I have now.

Homeschooling gave me the chance to try new things, ask questions, and learn in ways that actually made sense to me. I have done so many things in my life that I probably would not have wanted to do if school had just been worksheets and textbooks all day. Learning felt useful, not forced, and it taught me how to take responsibility for my own education.

One of the best parts of being homeschooled was learning with my family. I loved learning with my siblings, and I was lucky to have two older brothers who helped me when they could. Seeing them learn showed me that learning does not stop when you finish school. It is something you do your whole life. Learning together brought us closer and made school feel more fun and less stressful.

My parents also made sure the Bible was part of our school every day. It was not just another book, but something real and true that guided how we lived and learned. Knowing God's Word helped shape how I see the world and helped me understand why learning matters in the first place.

I really encourage parents and kids to be excited about school and to include the Lord in it. When God is part of learning, it becomes more meaningful, and it helps create a love for learning that lasts a lifetime and that they will carry on to the next generation as well. We must think about long-term things, not just how to make sure we are keeping our heads above water. One way to do that is by asking God for help.

A great way to start is by beginning your morning with prayer and rejoicing in the Lord. It does not need to be extravagant or anything fancy—just praise and prayer. At the end of the day, the only thing God wants is your love and attention. We cannot forget Him in our daily lives. He is the center of everything, and we must keep it that way for as long as we live, to the ends of the earth.
