Foreign Language
Rosetta Stone (paired with weekly informal activities)
At the high school level, use the Student Management System for more thorough lessons, which include review. This system also tracks the student’s progress, which helps with record keeping and accountability.
We strongly recommend adding other informal language-learning experiences at least once a week. For example, to reinforce Spanish:
- Watch a familiar DVD (children’s ones are best) and select Spanish as the language.
- Find a native Spanish speaker to meet with regularly for meals, simple card games, etc. and speak only Spanish.
- Read simple Spanish children’s books, especially those you know in English. Also listen to and read tape/book sets from your library.
- Listen to a Spanish-speaking radio station or T.V. channel. Even if you understand very little, this will help you become more familiar with the language.

Introduction to Logic
Logic and critical thinking skills are important for all students, but the textbooks are often dry and intimidating. Finally, there is a solution! The Fallacy Detective and The Thinking Toolbox are written from a Christian perspective with a friendly, humorous style by two homeschooled brothers. A semester of credit for Introduction to Logic may be given upon completion of this easy-to-use two-book set, which includes:
- The Fallacy Detective by Nathaniel Bluedorn and Hans Bluedorn (Christian Logic, 2003). Thirty-six lessons on how to recognize bad reasoning, covering the topics of opposing viewpoints, logical fallacies (such as red herring, ad hominem, and straw man), making assumptions, statistical fallacies, and propaganda techniques.
- The Thinking Toolbox by Nathaniel Bluedorn and Hans Bluedorn (Christian Logic, 2003). Thirty-five lessons for building reasoning skills in the areas of thinking, opposing viewpoints, and science.

Driver's Education
National Driver Training Institute
National Driver Training Institute has developed materials so that you can teach driver's education to your teenager. We (the Hazell's) have used this program three times so far. We appreciate its thoroughness and its focus on safety through defensive driving.
For information about using this program in your state, click on the link below.
We think having the driver's education manual in print is important so be sure to select "Yes" on the textbook option.
