2nd - 8th Grade Multi-Age Curriculum Overview

Our curriculum for 2nd - 8th graders is multi-age.

MFW is designed to be flexible and works for families with one child or multiple children and for schools. Families with more than one child use the same program to teach all children in 2nd - 8th grade.

Select one of two options:

Adventures in My Father's World (one year program)
For 2nd or 3rd graders who have no siblings in 4th - 8th grade.
(Also for advanced 1st graders who are reading and writing well.)

Multi-Age Family Cycle (beginning with Exploring Countries and Cultures)
For 4th - 8th graders
and 2nd - 3rd graders with older siblings in the Family Cycle.
(Also for 3rd graders who have completed Adventures in My Father's World)

Adventures in My Father's World

A one-year program for 2nd or 3rd graders who have no siblings in 4th - 8th grade
(Also for advanced 1st graders who are reading and writing well)

Adventures teacher's manualTravel back in time and explore U.S. history and patriotic symbols from a Christian perspective with fascinating stories, hands-on activities, a timeline, and a student created history notebook. Also includes U.S. geography, Bible, science, art, music and more.

Adventures in My Father's World is designed for the time when families have 2nd or 3rd graders with no older siblings in 4th - 8th grade. 2nd or 3rd graders with older siblings should skip Adventures and join their siblings in the current program of the Family Cycle. This ensures that a parent is teaching only one program for 2nd - 8th graders.

3rd graders who have completed Adventures should begin the Family Cycle with Exploring Countries and Cultures.

An Overview of our Multi-Age Family Cycle

For 4th-8th graders
and 2nd-3rd graders with older siblings in the Family Cycle
(Also for 3rd graders who have completed Adventures in My Father's World)

MFW is designed to be flexible and works for families with one child or multiple children and for schools. The curriculum is multi-age. Any number of children in 2nd - 8th grade may be taught together, using the same program. Each child will enjoy activities appropriate to his age, while studying the same curriculum as his siblings. This helps unify the family while easing the parent's teaching schedule.

Our unique and innovative multi-age curriculum for 2nd-8th grade begins with a one-year foundation in geography followed by four years of history presented chronologically. Beginning with Creation, world history is integrated with Biblical history. When the study of U.S. history begins, it is presented in the context of world history so that your children will understand how world events continue to impact what happens in the United States.

Year One Geography: Exploring Countries and Cultures
Year Two History: Creation to the Greeks
Year Three History: Rome to the Reformation
Year Four U.S./World History: Exploration to 1850
Year Five U.S./World History: 1850 to Modern Times

Each of our programs for grades 2-8 integrates Bible, literature, history/geography, science, music appreciation, art, and character development. Add grade level math and language arts for a complete curriculum program. When teaching multiple children in kindergarten - 6th grade, our easy-to-use daily lesson plans are usually completed in four hours each day when following our recommendations for math and language arts. An additional one to two hours of independent study in science and math is recommended for 7th and 8th graders.

5 Year Cycle Diagram
How Our Multi-Age Family Cycle Works
  1. If your oldest is in 4th-8th grade, begin the Family Cycle at Year One with all 2nd-8th graders. K - 1st graders may participate in some of the easier activities for a low-key exposure to topics. (If you have a 2nd or 3rd grader, and no children in 4th - 8th grade, use Adventures in My Father's World and begin the five-year cycle the next year.)
  2. Continue through the five-year cycle. When younger children reach 2nd grade, they join their older siblings in the family cycle using the same year the other children are studying. This unifies the family and assures that Mom is only teaching one of the five-year cycle programs each year. (Younger children can easily join mid-cycle because they have already been exposed to the earlier years as a part of the family.)
  3. When you finish Year Five, go back to Year One and continue to cycle through Years One-Five with all of your children who have not reached 9th grade. A 7th or 8th grader will repeat, on a more advanced level, the years he was taught in 2nd and 3rd grade.
  4. When a child reaches 9th grade, he will leave the cycle. He is ready for parent-guided independent work in our high school program.
Exploring Countries and Cultures Year 1 Creation to the Greeks Year 2 Rome to the Reformation Year 3 Exploration to 1850 Year 4 1850 to Modern Times Year 5
